NOISE-A-THON RECORDS

Recent Projects

The home studio has been very busy leading into the 2020s and beyond. Here's a round-up of recent projects:

TRIPLE ENGINE

The debut single from a brand new band formed during WA's Covid-19 isolation period was released in 2020.

Two follow-up singles were released in 2020 and 2021, with the debut album due for 2023 release.

REFRACTORY ROAD

Tracking for a new song, 'Less Hiding'.

SOUNDBAKER SESSION WORK

Guitar solos tracked at Noise-a-thon for two Soundbaker song projects at the request of producer Rob Agostini.

GRACIE B

First EP recorded and produced by Noise-a-thon with a second in the works for 2023 release.

ADELINE & EDWARD

All demos for songs from this original musical written by Rob Garton-Smith have been recorded at Noise-a-thon.

JACEY BROWN

Jacey's debut single 'Change', a powerful statement on domestic violence, was recently released to all digital platforms.

ALLI BUTLER

Alli has recorded a fresh version of her song 'Call On Me' from her Fringe-worthy comedy/music show '40 Year-Old Popstar'.

Keep an eye and ear out for the song on Alli's socials.

NELLA NIKNOT

A project from budding musician and radio host (Tonk'n Along With Tonks on Voice of The Avon 101.3FM), 'Fools of Dereliction' harnesses the spirit and simplicity of 70s punk bands for a political song on climate change. Up and coming WA artist Gracie B provides the lead vocals, with guest guitar from Chris Gibbs.

THE INDIAN PACIFIC

Originally premiered on ABC TV fifty (that's right, fifty!) years ago, 'The Indian Pacific' has been re-recorded by Chris Gibbs under the supervision of the song's original composer, Rob Garton-Smith to commerate half a century since the famous cross-country train made its first journey across the Nullabor.

DENNY THAKRAR

Having contributed numerous guitar parts to Denny's projects over the years, Chris was very excited to once again record guitars for a new Bollywood-style single and remix.

WINTERFOLD

In conjunction with Troy Nababan at Hammerspace Recordings, Chris has co-produced the debut from new Perth act Winterfold, which happens to feature Chris' nephew Will Gibbs on lead guitar. If 70s-90s era hard rock is your thing, check this one out when it drops in a couple of months.

2017: the year of NOISE-A-THON!

Things have been heating up here at Noise-athon over the summer. We are very happy to announce that tracking on the long-awaited Graphic Fiction Heroes EP 'Dreams Of A Libertine' is COMPLETE! Troy Nababan will be handling the co-production and mixing; early draft mixes are sounding awesome. The EP will include the 2016 single 'Vicious Valentine' along with four brand new tracks: 'The Great Divide', 'The Dream', 'Our Libertine' and 'Bundle Of Joy'. For the most part, the EP was written by Chris Gibbs and Mat Ferguson, with arrangement by the whole band including current bassist Joe Southwell, who makes his recording debut with GFH on this EP. The EP is due for a May 2017 release.

In other news, final mixes are complete for the new Chris Gibbs & The Transmission EP, 'News Of The Day'. This EP takes five of the most popular tracks from Gibbs' 2014 album 'Big Appetite', with added drums by Joshua Gallagher, extra guitars parts by Chris and Nic Di Rosso, and a brand new mix and master by Chris at Noise-a-thon. The EP will be launched at Henhouse Live on April 15th with special guests Jackson Koke.

Finally, demos have already commenced for the next CG&TT release, to be an as-yet-untitled full length album. Chris is aiming for a December release, making three release for Noise-a-thon in one calendar year.

SEVERAL PROJECTS NEARING COMPLETION

Chris has been hard at work in the Noise-a-thon studio, edging closer to completion on several current projects.

The re-worked Chris Gibbs & The Transmission EP, tentatively titled 'Bigger Appetite' has reached final mixing stage. The EP features five of the most popular songs from the 2014 album with enhanced tracking and mixing, including live drums from Josh Gallagher. The band are aiming for a spring release to coincide with an appearance at the Sundown Spring Music Festival in Tammin.

Kerry B Ryan is recording a two-track single at Noise-a-thon, scratch guitars and vocals have been recorded, drum tracks built, and Kerry and his bassist will return to Noise-a-thon soon to commence tracking.

The Graphic Fiction Heroes recording is shaping up nicely, current tracks nearing completion are the next two singles: 'The Great Divide' and 'The Dream'.

Lee Musto's long-awaited debut EP has been re-energised, with new guitar parts completed and new lead vocal parts to come. The project is sounding even better than the earlier versions of the recording. Lee is aiming to complete recording before spring, after which all tracks will be sent to Glenn Musto in Melbourne for final mixes.

In other studio news, Chris recently collaborated with Rob Agostini at Soundbaker, laying down some of his cleaner, bluster work on a track for emerging artist Jowe. Keep an ear out for Chris' work on Jowe's debut soon!

GRAPHIC FICTION HEROES TO RELEASE 'VICIOUS VALENTINE' SINGLE

2013 WAM Song Of The Year Country category winners (First & Last) Graphic Fiction Heroes return to their rock roots with a brand new digital single Vicious Valentine, scheduled for a January 8th release on iTunes, CD Baby and all good digital outlets.

The band will launch the single at The Astor Lounge, with support from RAGDOLL, NEVSKY PROSPEKT and MIDNIGHT BOULEVARD.

$10 entry to the launch includes a download of Vicious Valentine, which was written by current members Chris Gibbs and Mat Ferguson along with original bassist Gareth Hughes. In an interesting case of circularity, Hughes will also be playing with the band at the launch whilst on a return visit to Perth from his new home in the UK, filling in for current bassist Joe Southwell who is currently contracted to play music internationally and has spent much of 2015 abroad.

Initially recorded by Rob Agostini at Soundbaker (drums) utilising prize money and free recording time from the 2013 WAM win, all other tracking was completed at Gibbs’ home studio Noise-a-thon (guitars, vocals, percussion, keys) along with the bass parts having been completed somewhere off the coast of Iceland in a cruise ship cabin. The final mix was produced at Soundbaker and mastering was completed by Simon Struthers at Forensic Audio.
